One of the most common problems with removing tonsil stones is gagging. It’s probably one of the main reasons why most of you hate them and want to get rid of them for good.
Well I want to help you out. So in this post I’m going to show you how to get tonsil stones out without gagging!
It’s not as difficult as it seems and there are actually a few methods which help.
Although I need to make something clear first before I introduce you to them.
In order for you to stop your gag reflex, you need to desensitize yourself to it. And the only way you can do that is through repetition.
So no matter which method you choose, whether it be one from below or another. Stick to one and practice it. That’s the only way you’re going to get yourself to stop gagging.
This shouldn’t be too difficult with tonsil stones as they are known to be a recurring problem.
But with that out the way let’s get on with the methods.
Those are mostly used to give a more effective clean of your gums and teeth but they’re also really good at getting tonsil stones out.
They’re basically little devices that produce a little jet stream of water. Because of this and that they have long necks, you don’t need to reach to the back of throat.
Meaning you’re less likely to gag.
You just need to be careful however. The little jet can be powerful and can cause damage to your gums tissue, sometimes resulting in bleeding.
So before you aim it at your tonsils give it a test. You’ll probably have to use the lowest setting possible now matter what but I’d try anyway.
Salt Water (or Mouthwash) Gargle
Now I put these two things together because you’re basically doing the same thing – swishing water around your tonsils and cleaning out your mouth.
The act of water brushing against your tonsils should push out some of the stones and you’ll be washing away bad bacteria which causes them in the first place.
What you do is:
- Mix 1-2 tablespoons of salt with 8 ounces of water
- Take a sip and tilt your head back
- Gargle so the mixture reaches your tonsils.
- Spit it out after 15 seconds and repeat until the water is gone.
If you decide to use mouthwash, make sure you get one with chlorine dioxide and zinc compounds and don’t feel the need to finish the entire bottle.
Dental Irrigation Syringe
These are nifty little devices and they’re very helpful in getting rid of hidden tonsil stones. Particularly those hid behind your tonsils.
All you do is fill these up with equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide solution and squirt it at your tonsils. They should be able to apply enough pressure to get the stones out of place.
Make sure you get one with a bent tip. This makes it easier to get in and around the crypts in your tonsils.
Alternatively, you could use the air to suck up your tonsil stones. But you really need to be able to see your tonsil stones to do this and you could be more likely to gag.
You would use these in a similar way to mouthwash and salt water – to clean out your mouth of bad bacteria and to dislodge your tonsil stones.
I recommend you use S. Salivarius K12 probiotic supplements they’re best at fighting against bad bacteria and infectious organisms that find their way into your mouth.
You would the mix this probiotic with 4 ounces water and wash it around your mouth for 15 seconds at a time until all the liquid is gone. Again, make sure to tilt your head back so it reaches your tonsils.
Oral probiotics are actually great for many things so you could use them on a daily basis if you wanted. They would really improve your overall oral hygiene.
Hopefully after trying and getting use to one of these methods, you’ll be able to get rid of your tonsil stones without gagging.
It’ll take some practice but just stick at it!
